Downtown Sydney

Trip Day Thirty-one: Wednesday, October 24, 2007

George Street

George Street, Downtown Sydney

This is the main street of the shopping area of downtown. Nearest the camera is the Queen Victoria Building, the home of up-scale shops. The building was constructed on the site of the old George Street Market in 1898. The Romanesque architecture features stained glass windows, a huge central dome, and a number of smaller domes.
Another Side of the Queen Victoria Building

The Town Hall

This Victorian style building was built in the 1880s across from the site of the Queen Victoria Building to house the Sydney City Council, Centennial Hall, the offices of the Lord Mayor, and the elected councilors.
