Modern dwellings line the roads.
Can you imagine what it was like to live in these houses while canons were blasting
your town from the hill above your head? We couldn't help noticing
the bright new roofs on so many of the houses.
In spite of the elaborate ancient ramparts to protect them from attack by sea,
there seems no provision for defence from enemies coming from the hills above them.
White limestone is still the preferred building material.
