The artisan heats a ball of glass in the furnace.
And, Yes, they actually blow the glass.

For a container or tube of any kind,
they blow through the hollow metal tube into the ball of glass to begin to shape the object.

They roll the ball of glass on a metal surface such as the table on the left to give the ball the desired shape.

He is shaping a spiral here.
