After spending more than 24 hours in air planes and airports, we were happy to see this perky lady who met us at Rio's international airport. We were a little early for embarkation on the ms Ryndam, so we were treated to a tour of the city.

Modern City / Modern Traffic

We found Rio de Janeiro to be a modern city with a deep history.
Now a city of 6 million people, the site of Rio de Janeiro, was discovered on January (Janeiro) 1, 1502 by Portuguese navigators who mistook the entrance of Guanabara Bay for the mouth of a river (Rio).

Right and below: We drove by the stadium that hosts the famous champion Brazilan soccer team.

The Brazilians and the Argentines maintain a fierce rivalry in soccer and many other aspects of their national lives.
