Although not included on the city tour, some of the Ryndam passengers hired taxi cabs to go out to visit the penguin colony.

These appear to be Magellan penguins, similar to those we saw in the Beagle Channel near Ushuaia. Why they chose not to include the colony on the city tour was not explained. Those taking the city tour filled several busses. We suspect they didn't want so many people near the nesting site. Notice that these penguins don't have their chicks on the ice. We learned that the Emporer Penguins of Antarctica are the only ones who do.
