Montevideo, Uruguay

The Main Square

Day 5: Monday, January 8, 2002

A Face Lift

Here, one of the workers pauses from his painting and opera singing to give us a wave. He is not standing on the balcony railing, even though the perspective of the picture implies that.

Montevideo has what must be hundreds of beautiful old colonial buildings. Nearer the port, many of them have been allowed to decay, many now abandoned. So it's good to see any that have repairs in progress. This one is a government building on the main square.

Modern and Colonial Buildings Surround the Main Square.
