Kohala Mountains

Island of Hawaii
Friday, October 13th, 2000

These mountains are on the northeast part of the Big Island of Hawaii.

It looks as if there was some explosive volcano activity in the distant past. These look like cinder cones in this area. That's were the lava flies in the air and falls back to earth in showers of rock rather than oozing along the ground as most of the Hawaiian lava has done. There appears to be some kind of antenna or observatiory in the center of the picture.
